Electrotechnical safety

The luminaires in this catalogue are designed and produced on the basis of the EN 60598/VDE 0711 standards. The majority of the luminaires bear the relevant test mark on the type plate as well as on the packaging and instructions for use. The other luminaires have been or will be submitted for certification, but the certification and approval procedure is still in progress. We can provide information on the status of the certification procedure at any time. Special orders are produced in accordance with the above set of regulations. All luminaires are subject to continuous monitoring during manufacture and quality assurance.

Safety symbols

The ENEC symbol (European Norms Electrical Certification) is a European test and certification symbol for luminaires and electrical components in luminaires. The number 10 with or without the VDE symbol signifies that the test/certification symbol was awarded by the VDE Institute for Testing and Certification.

The conventional German F marking on luminaires is no longer necessary now that the validity of the standard that preceded DIN EN 60598 (VDE 0711) has come to an end: 2009-09 or (with the end of the transitional period) on 12th april 2012.

Surface-mounted luminaires that carry this marking are not suitable for direct installation on normally flammable building materials.

Due to their limited surface temperatures, luminaires with this symbol are suitable for locations subject to fire hazards caused by dust or fibres (VDE 0711 Part 2-24).

The familiar German F marking on luminaires was no longer necessary now that the validity of the standard that preceded DIN EN 60598 (VDE 0711) had come to an end: 2009-09 or (with the end of the transitional period) on 12th april 2012.

Recessed luminaires that carry this marking are not suitable for direct installation on normally flammable building materials.

No thermal insulation material is allowed adjacent to luminaires with this symbol.

The ta = ... °C mark in accordance with EN 60598 (VDE 0711) gives information about the permissible ambient temperature at which a luminaire may be operated. Our luminaires are generally designed for an ambient temperature of ta = 25 °C, that is, for indoors and outdoors applications. In a few exceptional cases, a luminaire may be approved for outdoors applications only. We mark this on the type plate and in the instructions for use with ta = 15 °C.

The CE mark is applied on the manufacturer‘s own responsibility and stands for compliance with the directives and standards of the products in question. The manufacturer documents that the directives of the European Union have been observed.

The number next to the CE symbol indicates that a testing and certification body verifies compliance with directives.

Safety classes

Safety class I designates luminaires with an earth connection. Under fault conditions, the power supply is cut by an overload.

Safety class II designates luminaires that, apart from functional insulation, have an additional protective insulation. Under fault conditions, no dangerous voltage can reach metal parts which can be touched. Many luminaires are available in Safety class I and also in Safety class II. Please inquire accordingly.

Safety class III designates luminaires operating on extra-low safety voltage. They can only be connected to safety transformers in accordance with EN 61558/VDE 0570, EN 61347/VDE 712 or VDE 0100 Part 410.
