New service centre for HHU students

With its clear-cut shapes and modern glass architecture, the new “Students Service Centre” of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf presents itself as a new foyer to the entire campus.

A large, impressive flight of steps leads from University Street to the main entrance situated on a higher level. Steps and forecourt are covered by a large canopy resting on filigree pillars. From this area, visitors and students from the street as well as from the westerly main axis of the university campus are protected from the elements when they enter the building. At the same time, visitors are welcomed with an imposing architectural gesture.

BEGA drive-over in-ground luminaire are used to illuminate the area around the new service centre. They are arranged around the building to provided orientation. The luminaire housings are made completely of stainless steel and come with a patented mounting system for quick and reliable installation in exactly the right position.

While the building itself was required to be functional and sustainable, great value was also placed on the design of its outdoor areas. Here it was important to create a link between the existing buildings of the Heichrich Heine University and the new service centre.

The large forecourt merges these two areas by architectural means. It is illuminated by BEGA light building elements. These are particularly suitable for dividing and structuring outdoor spaces. In the context of the Heinrich Heine University, they produce a successful combination of existing and new architecture on the Düsseldorf university campus.
